Don’t Forget – You Can Work DXCC for W1SYE

If you ask John, K1JSM, for permission to be sure things are coordinated, you can operate as W1SYE from your home station and wrack up DXCC or WAS points for the club.

For example, a club member using the W1SYE call made contact with VP8SGI, South Georgia Island (AN-007), off the coast of Antarctica today (14.023.216/14.024.300 CW @ 20:37:34 UTC 2016/2/1).  Another was made the following day on 17 meters.

Remember to stay within your own operating privileges — in the example above the contact was in the Extra CW segment.

Winter Field Day Noon to Noon Jan 30/31

Can’t wait until June to get your outdoor operating quota in?

NCRC will be participating in Winter Field day at Glenn Park.

Winter Field Day is January 30 and 31st from noon Saturday to Noon Sunday… so far we have commitments for operators from me, N1PSX, Rich, KC1ARO, Willy, W1LY, Dave, W2DAN, Paul KC1AQP, and Chuck, N1CKT… we could use some more…

Contact Paul, N1PSX, or Rich, KC1ARO for details

First NPOTA Log Uploaded to LotW

Rich Russell (KC1ARO) and Paul Silverzweig (N1PSX) have hiked Northwestern RI on January 7th to put “TR23”, which is part of the Washington – Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail National Scenic Trail, on the air (they were in the Parker Woodland).

They were on the air a bit less than 2.5 hours and worked 236 stations using the callsign N1PSX.

Future NPOTA activations will be announced on the Club Website and will more than likely use the callsign W1SYE (now that we have a LotW account setup, thanks to trustee John Mills).

If you are a LotW user, don’t forget to upload your logbook entries and go to the NPOTA website to check on your “Chaser” credits: https://npota.arrl.org/

The one for this NPOTA event looks like this:

National Park on the Air: N1PSX, TR23, 14.252 MHz

Rich Russell (KC1ARO) and Paul Silverzweig (N1PSX) have hiked up in Northwestern RI to put “TR23”, which is part of the Washington – Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail National Scenic Trail, on the air (they are in the Parker Woodland.  They are using N1PSX as the call, and are on 14.252 MHz.

By the way, the pile-up is huge.  They are working a station every 15 seconds with no signs of it stopping.  And I can’t say this enough — they are doing a fantastic job of managing a large pileup.

This is a BIG Deal for the ARRL.  Much like the Centennial QSO Party, they have setup dedicated webpages for this, leaderboards, etc.  Once the QSOs are uploaded to LotW, you will receive your points for working that park automatically.

See this website:  https://npota.arrl.org/index.php

Click on the “On the Air” tab and look for TR23 and you will see Paul and Rich’s details — as well as all the other parks on the air.

Once the LotW setup is complete NCRC member can start using the W1SYE call sign for other NPOTA events.

Winter Solstice Activation

Rich, KC1ARO, Paul, KC1AQP, and Paul, N1PSX, went to Arcadia State Park for a campout on the solstice and some radio activation. They made 21 contacts on 6, 20 and 40m. Some on CW, but mostly on SSB, running 80 watts from battery power.
