NCRC Meeting Monday June 12, 7 PM at KVH

Hello,

Please remember that Monday June 12 is our regular meeting at 7 PM, at KVH.

In addition to a brief business meeting, we will be discussing the final Field Day preparations.  If you haven’t signed up for Saturday’s dinner yet, or even if you know you aren’t going, we would appreciate you taking a few seconds to fill out the form on this webpage linked below.  Calling 100 members is quite a task, and those that fill in the form really help us out!  If you aren’t going type a zero 0 in the number attending field.

Field Day 2017 – Please Sign Up for Dinner Sat June 24

After the business meeting, there will be the first of a number of reviews of logging software.  Monday’s meeting will cover N3FJP’s Amateur Contact Log, which also happens to be the software we will be using at the GOTA station for Field Day.

NCRC Meeting Monday May 8 @ 7 PM KVH

Hard to believe it is meeting time again, but we will get together at 7:00 PM at KVH 75 Enterprise Drive, Middletown RI.

We will start our Field Day planning and have a short business meeting.
After the business meeting, Paul K1YBE, will have a demonstration of the Pixie transmit signal and how the standard filter does not attenuate the 2nd harmonic enough to produce a pure sine wave.
See you tomorrow night!

Club Meeting Monday April 10 @ 7 PM

In addition to a short business meeting 7 PM Monday April 10 at KVH Manufacturing (75 Enterprise Drive Middletown RI), we will have our final Pixie build/test night.  Four assembly stations will be available with mentors to help you complete your Pixie kit.  Then we will have at least two test stations that can verify transmit and receive function or help debug your assembled kit.

We hope everyone has enjoyed this project and appreciate KVH for giving us so much support the past three months.  Many folks have embarked on more ambitious QRP projects as well.

See you tomorrow!

Meeting: Monday March 13th @ 7PM

Just a reminder that we will be having our meeting Monday March 13th at KVH Manufacturing, 75 Enterprise Drive, Middletown, RI, at 7 PM.

Following a brief business meeting, we will begin Pixie Assembly.  We will have 8 assembly stations with mentors to help in the process.  If someone has already completed their Pixie and wants to test it, we will have the equipment on hand to do so.

Speaking of the Pixie, don’t forget the section on our website which has a significant amount of information to help the assembly process, including a manual.  https://w1sye.org/?page_id=3054

See everyone at the meeting!

Pixie Nights Begin – Monday Feb 13 @ 7 PM

Just a reminder that our monthly meeting will be Monday February 13 at 7:00 PM at KVH Manufacturing: 75 Enterprise Drive, Middletown, RI

PLEASE check the website before you leave for the meeting — there is a small chance that we might get hammered with more snow Monday morning.   We always post the meeting status in the news section of the website.

So what are Pixie Nights?

For the next three club meetings, in addition to a very short business meeting, we will be working on a Club Build project — A “Pixie”, which is a small, inexpensive, low power transceiver kit that can be used by anyone holding an Amateur Radio License.

For February’s meeting we will be holding a hands-on tutorial in soldering skills (and desoldering skills too).  KVH has been nice enough to setup a large number of solder stations with tools for us to use.  This is a unique opportunity, especially for those who have never done any electronic kit building.  Mentors will be on hand to guide you through the process.

In addition, John, WA1ABI, will be giving an introduction to the Pixie hardware to give you a good understanding of how the circuitry works.

Subsequent meetings will cover assembly of the Pixie, as well as Debug and Test.

For $10, you can’t go wrong, and will be able to point to the tiny Pixie radio, knowing you built it with your own hands, and have a low power transceiver that members have been using to make contacts hundreds of miles away.

If you would like to purchase a Pixie kit and join the fun, we have them in stock. This is really a very fun assembly project, and we will be working with you hand-in-hand to teach you how to solder, how the kit goes together, and help get it on the air.  To purchase your Pixie, please use the Paypal button on our website at this URL:
