Next NCRC Meeting is MONDAY Nov 13 at 7 PM

Our sponsor, KVH, will be open this Monday, so we will be holding our last formal meeting of the year on Monday November 13th at 7 PM at KVH.

We don’t have a formal presentation this meeting, but we do have a number of business items we will be covering, including votes for Officers, Bylaw Changes, and new members. We will also be reviewing the results for Field Day, and JOTA, plus updating folks on our educational activities.

Successful JOTA Oct 20-22

Many club members participated in JOTA this weekend at Glen Park.  Rob KB1ZZU will have many details at our next meeting (along with some excellent photos from Dave KC1AAA), but in round numbers approximately 20 scouts participated with a large number obtaining their Radio Merit Badge.  Two VHF (analog and DSTAR) stations were fielded along with two HF stations.  The DSTAR Reflector was much better organized this year and allowed scouts to have arm chair conversations with other scouts world-wide.  HF propagation was pretty good with 17 meters open to Europe and Africa the entire time.  Dulcet CW Tones were even heard emanating from Rich KC1ARO’s station!

Special hats-off to Jim KA1ZOU and his team of instructors — there were many excellent comments about the revised teaching plan this year.

NCRC Meeting is TUESDAY October 10th

Our next regular NCRC meeting will be held on TUESDAY October 10th at 7:30 PM at KVH.  NOTE:  It is on TUESDAY because of the Columbus Day holiday.

The meeting will begin with a live teleconference with Bob Naumann, W5OV, about the K3LR super contest station.  Following the teleconference we will have our regular business meeting which will include the second reading of bylaws changes plus a vote on them, as well as our final chance to discuss the upcoming JOTA event (October 20/21/22).

NCRC Needs More VEs

NCRC is lucky enough to have a number of dedicated Volunteer Examiners (VEs), but we could use more.  This is especially true since our latest Technician Class has 35 students!  The exam date is six weeks away on November 16th.

Becoming a VE is easy and free, but it can take a month or more to obtain your credentials.
