NCRC December Meeting

NCRC’s December Meeting will be a hybrid in-person and remote meeting again.  It will be held at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 E Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI 02871.  The doors will open Monday December 12th at 6:00 PM for the purpose of mingling.  Donuts will be served along with some other tasty snacks.

While the purpose of this meeting is mostly social, it also gives us a chance to reflect back on our accomplishments.  There will be a very short business meeting to vote on new members as well as the proposed change to the Bylaws that was discussed in November.  The business meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.  Those joining remotely should connect at this time (although you can join earlier if you desire).  Of course there will be a Yankee Swap to liven things up!

The Zoom invitation will be sent later this weekend.

NCRC had an amazing year, and has a wonderful new set of officers ready to continue to move the club forward in 2023.  We share our best holiday wishes to one and all.

NCRC November Meeting

NCRC’s November Meeting will be a hybrid in-person and remote meeting again.  It will be held at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 E Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI 02871.  The doors will open at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.  A zoom invitation will be sent out later this weekend.

The business meeting will be mostly centered on the election of officers for 2023.  We also have a minor Bylaw change that will be announced.

After the business meeting concludes, Cory KE1AK will give a presentation on the joys of QRP (low power) which makes backpacking, mountain topping, and other size/weight limited activites far more practical, as well as the ability to build one’s own simple gear.

More and more members have signed up for the club’s groups.io account, which will become more important as a means to keep members up to date, and provide a more organized way to support group discussion.  If you haven’t already done so, please consider joining groups.io.  It’s free for users.  Use to link to sign up:  https://groups.io/register

Info about JOTA and the Radio Merit Badge

On Oct 15, NCRC members provided an opportunity for Scouts to earn the Radio Merit Badge. and join the worldwide Jamboree On The Air (JOTA)   The requirements include an understanding of radio, spectrum use, phonetics, some on the air time and exposure to careers in radio.   The three presentations  are on line at

https://k2bsa.net/radio-merit-badge/

but the second was modified a bit and might be a useful review for some.  The changed slides are at.  NCRC modified slides for JOTA

A movie with our NCRC Eagle Scout Mac Cullen was also presented.  Very cool..

In addition  to Nancy’s JOTA story via ARRL. Jim, KC1LYG provided some additional photos.  Scouts had fun learning the basics of Amateur Radio.  Weather was beautiful!
