{"id":8721,"date":"2025-05-25T18:39:03","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T22:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/?p=8721"},"modified":"2025-05-26T17:35:37","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T21:35:37","slug":"parks-on-the-air-pota-demonstration-fort-adams-june-8-10am-2pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/?p=8721","title":{"rendered":"Parks On The Air (POTA) Demonstration: Fort Adams, June 8, 10AM-2PM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every day hundreds (thousands?) of US and international Amateur Radio stations bring their gear to parks all over the\u00a0globe.\u00a0 They set up portable stations in the parks, and try to make as many contacts as possible.\u00a0 The operators in the parks are called &#8220;Activators&#8221;, and other people contacting them are called &#8220;Hunters&#8221;.\u00a0 Activators and Hunters make up what is called the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/parksontheair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/parksontheair.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1748298786853000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0nQOr6Fxn5qGeQPaeZZ-G3\">Parks On The Air (POTA) program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday June 8, from 10am until 2pm, Newport County Radio Club will be holding a demonstration of a High Frequency (HF) POTA activation at Fort Adams State Park (park number US-2874).\u00a0 Our activities will be located in the parking area behind and to the right of the Eisenhower House (Northwest).\u00a0 Upon entering the park, turn left at Lincoln Drive, and follow it past the Eisenhower House.\u00a0 Enter the parking area that faces the East Passage of the bay &#8211; see the area circled on the map below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail_default\">By attending this event, you can see several stations engaged in a POTA Activation, and understand the equipment and antennas used &#8211; a great way to understand what you will require for your own portable operations.\u00a0 At least one voice and one digital station will be on the air.\u00a0 You do not need to sign up for anything, but you can make contacts for yourself, if you like.\u00a0 (By the way, this is an excellent way to get some on-air experience for Field Day.)<\/p>\n<p>An activation can be as simple or complex as you desire &#8211; talk to a few or hundreds of stations.\u00a0 Run 1 watt QRP, 100 watts, or more.\u00a0 And of course all modes are possible.
