{"id":5299,"date":"2020-05-12T12:15:41","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T16:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/?p=5299"},"modified":"2020-05-12T13:22:55","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T17:22:55","slug":"successful-zoom-club-meeting-last-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/?p=5299","title":{"rendered":"Successful Zoom Club Meeting Last Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NCRC held its May club meeting via Zoom last night.\u00a0 Things went very well.\u00a0 We had 48 people in attendance, which is a bit more than one of our traditional in-person meetings.\u00a0 It was nice to see members in FLA (Pete W1LAB), PA (Bruce NJ3K), and NH (Art W1AGW) join in as well.\u00a0 The business meeting ran just about an hour, including a long discussion of <a href=\"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/?page_id=5289\">Field Day 2020<\/a>, with two new members being voted into membership.\u00a0 Congratulations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul Perrone, KB1QWY, South Kingstown<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Jackman, N1SMX, North Kingstown<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After the meeting there was a 30 minute presentation on learning Morse Code given by Bob WB4SON.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/w1sye.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Learning-Morse-Code.pdf\">The slides can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the best part of the night was the 30 minutes that followed the presentation, with very lively conversation among the 40+ remaining members.\u00a0 A good time was had by all.<\/p>\n<p>Several folks offered up some interesting books on the history of Morse Code and telegraphy in general.\u00a0 Thanks (Peter KQ1X and Bruce NJ3K) including these titles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;The Victorian Internet&#8221;, by Tom Standage in 1998 and 1999 the later is paperback<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;A Thread Across The Ocean&#8221;, by John Steele Gordon published in 2003<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Signor Marconi&#8217;s Magic Box&#8221;, by Gavin Weighman Published in 2003<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Engineers &amp; Electrons A Century of the IEEE 1884-1984&#8221;, by John D.
